Hi! I'm Peter!

I was brought into the shelter as a stray with an open wound under my left eye. It was pretty bad but the medical staff helped me start healing. I was transferred to the rescue so that I could continue to heal in a home-like environment.

We don't know how I was injured but it could have been because I'm a bit of a scrapper as I have some old injure scars on my back leg that look like they healed without medical attention. I may not be a spring chicken but I do like to assert myself and some dogs don't like that. Unfortunately, I don't take their corrections well and I will stand my ground. This could be because though I can see, my eyesight isn't the best so my judgment of their intent can be a little off.

Yes, I am older but I am also very alert and I love to walk about and explore. When we are walking, even though the house, I like to be all 4 on the floor rather than being carried. But once we are on the couch or the bed, I love to cuddle up and fall asleep on you. Careful though, I will try to jump off of the bed on my own and I will injure myself if I do.

As an older dog, I will need to have regular medical checkups. I do have a heart murmur that needs to be checked but it's not an issue for me. While in care I received my vaccines, a micripchip, I was neutered, and I had a dental. My teeth were beyond bad but I was able to still keep some of my teeth! I will need to eat dry kibble to keep them.

I'm looking for a person or a couple who wants to spend most of their time with me. I prefer to be an only dog and please, no kids.
