Hi! My name is Luca.

I was brought into the shelter as a stray and then transferred to rescue to help me heal and find my forever home.

So a little bit about me; I'm a vegetarian and I love the outdoors. I am a great eater and I love to explore.

Though there is no way to really tell what age I am, based on my color and size I am probably within the 10 - 15 years range. My species can live more than 50 years if we have a lean, high-fiber diet and a low-stress environment with the right temps and light. Bringing me into your family is a lifelong commitment, for both of us!

I require an outdoor enclosure and possibly a safe place inside when the weather is bad. Don't worry, the rescue will provide you with all of the information that you will need to prepare for my arrival :)

If you think we may be a good match, or you would like to get to know me better, please click the Adoption Application button below and you will be contacted to set up a date!

1- We can only accept applications from interested parties who are in or near San Diego County, California at this time.
2- We do not ship reptiles but we are willing to work with you if you are willing to travel.

Animal Care Reference Material:

A popular pet tortoise, Russian tortoises are one of the most readily available tortoise species. They are small, making them easy for most people with limited space to keep. They are also feisty, eager to eat and more active than some other tortoises. When allowed to burrow, Russian tortoises also have one of the highest tolerances for temperature extremes. Most Russian tortoises are imported into the United States. Compared to the number of imported tortoises, captive production of this species is relatively low. You should assume that most adult or sub adult Russian tortoises for sale are wild-caught (imported). Russian tortoise hatchlings measure about 1 inch in carapace length. As they mature, they reach a maximum length of 8 to 10 inches.Russian tortoises can live more than 40 years. Raised on a lean, high-fiber diet, captive-raised animals in low-stress environments have higher life expectancies.
