Hi there, I’m Mocha, a 13 lb chocolate miniature poodle with a happy bounce in my step—just like most poodles! My two favorite things in the whole world are going for long, energetic walks and riding along in the car. Oh, and I have had my name for my entire life, so I would really like to keep it, please.
Before coming to the rescue, I hadn’t lived with other dogs, but I think I’d enjoy having a friend close to my size who can show me how to play. I try, but I’m still a bit awkward at it! I can be a little bossy, so my playmate would need to be the type who can give fair corrections without being over the top. I can also be an only pup and maybe have friends that we visit with instead.
I was brought to the rescue because of some issues that need extra care and patience. I’m looking for a home with someone experienced in resource guarding—especially when it comes to food, treats, and toys. I’m crate trained, and that’s my safe space where I like to eat and sleep. I’m not a candidate for being a bedtime snuggler, and I’ve also been trained to stay off furniture since I can start to guard space there. I’m best as an “all 4 on the floor” companion, not a pup to be carried or treated like a baby. I’m independent and appreciate boundaries, but I also need someone who can help me keep those boundaries in check.
Because of my awkwardness with play, dog parks and dog beaches aren’t for me. I’ll also need a kid-free home, though respectful older teens may be okay. While I have my quirks (don’t we all?), I’m truly a good dog who deserves a chance—I just need someone who will respect my requirements and commit to building a relationship with me the right way.
A big bonus is that I’m potty-trained! I’m also looking forward to long, high-energy daily walks, a healthy, high-quality diet, monthly grooming, and annual vet check-ups to keep me feeling my very best. Working with a positive reinforcement trainer who has experience with resource guarding would be a wonderful way for us to grow together, too.
If you’re considering adopting me, I hope you’ll remember the Rule of 3s:
The first 3 days are for decompressing and adjusting to a safe, quiet space.
The next 3 weeks are for learning routines, building trust, and bonding.
And in 3 months, I’ll truly feel at home, confident, and part of the family.
With patience, consistency, and lots of positive reinforcement, I know I’ll thrive. If you’re looking for a smart, independent, and loyal companion, I think we might just be the perfect fit. 💛
