DEZZY IS PENDING ADOPTION - WE ARE NOT TAKING ANY MORE APPLICATIONS FOR HER AT THIS TIME
Hi! My name is Dezzy.
I was brought into the shelter as emergency boarding and when no one came to reclaim me I was transferred to the rescue to find my forever home.
It is clear from the appearance of my shell that previously I have not been cared for properly. I have mild Metabolic Bone Disease or MBD. With the right care my condition, while it is not reversible, it will not progress. Honestly, though, I am so carefree, that I don’t even realize that I am any different than anyone else.
So a little bit about me, I'm an omnivore which means while bugs are obviously my favorite, I require a diet that also includes leafy greens, lots of veggies, and a touch of fruit. Believe it or not, I am pretty much full-grown!
My foster mom says 'Dezzy is totally chill and sweet. She likes to be talked to in a soft voice and sometimes even has a shell massage. She is a good eater and loves to watch household activities. She is chill and sweet.'
Though there is no way to really tell what age I am, based on my size I am an adult. My species can live up to 70 years if we have a lean, high-fiber diet and a low-stress environment with the right temps and light. Bringing me into your family is a lifelong commitment, for both of us!
I require a large indoor enclosure. Having a secured outdoor enclosure for me to hang out in part-time is optional and the rescue can provide you with all the guides you will need.
Unlike tortoises, you will need to ensure that my enclosure retains a higher humidity. My kind are not native here as we typically dwell in a marshier humid habitat, similar to parts of Florida. Don't worry, the rescue will provide you with all of the information that you will need to prepare for my arrival :)
If you think we may be a good match, or you would like to get to know me better, please click the Adoption Application button below and you will be contacted to set up a date!
PLEASE NOTE:
1- We can only accept applications from interested parties who are in or near San Diego County, California at this time.

3- #2 will depend on the animal that you are applying for and is at the discretion of the board of directors.
