XENA IS PENDING ADOPTION SO WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS AT THIS TIME

Hi! My name is Miss Xena but you can call me Xena if you like.

My story is a little famous. I was out wandering the desert of Ocotillo Wells for at least 7 days in October 2021. There were so many people trying to find and help me that a network was started online to ensure that I was safe until I was rescued. What is noted was that I was going from camp to camp - typically looking at camps with either kids or dogs - obviously looking for something familiar.

I was scared out there on my own and I didn't trust those I didn't know. But these strangers are why I survived. Most camps I came to left food and water out for me. I am so thankful to them! On the 8th day, the VP of the SBRSC rescue joined the band of people trying to help me. With intel and collaboration from many visitors to the park, tow days of tracking, and a family that I eventually allowed to touch me, I was finally secured! I spent the first night at the rescue just to acclimate and then I went to the shelter to see if my family was looking for me and to allow time for them to find me.

We don't know what happened or why we were separated, there are a thousand possibilities. But the people in the desert, the shelter, and the rescue showed me love and compassion and have taken great care of me ever since! Once my time elapsed at the shelter where I was treated like a queen, the rescue took me back in to help me find a new family and forever home! I am over the the rescues weight limit for dogs but they were not going to give up on me, they want to see me happy in my new home with a new family to call my own!!!

I'm shy at first but let's face it, I have Husky and Shephard in me, I'm going to be high energy, super active, pretty vocal, and very playful once I trust that I am home! I'm already showing my true self in my foster home with 2 other husky mixes. Geeze it's so much fun to romp and play!

Having said that, I am a bit skittish after my long journey when I am outside the house so I will need a secure harness for going on walks and a seatbelt in the vehicle.

I would love to have another friend my size to play with or I can be an only dog. So far I am fairly respectful of the small dogs around me too. My experience has made me seem older than I am. I am looking forward to just hanging out and being a dog again!

If you think we may be a good match, or you would like to get to know me better, please click the Adoption Application button below and you will be contacted to set up a date!

Due to home introductions that are part of the adoption process, we can only accept applications for interested parties who are in or near San Diego County, California at this time.
